"Ang pinaka challenge nga duwa sa Balamban ang ziplining ug wall climbing."

Balamban is a 1st class municipality in the province of Cebu, Philippines. It is bounded on the north by the municipality of Asturias, on the east by the cities of Cebu and Mandaue, on the south by the city of Toledo and on the west by Tañon Strait.

Balamban has rapidly grown into an industrial municipality primarily because of its shipbuilding industry which catapulated it to a 1st class municipality from a mere 4th class town about a decade ago. Its adjacent location to Cebu City from the west also greatly perked up its economic activities specially after the completion of the Trans-Central Highway, a road network that traverses and connects the scenic mountainous areas of Cebu City and Balamban, a region that is now the subject of great interest for tourism and housing development.

The town derived its name from a native term, "balang-balang" which refers to the linked arms of the natives formed as improvised seat to carry/ferry Spaniards in crossing the river. The name "balang-balang" was shortened to "bang-bang" which eventually became "Balamban."

The Spaniards first settled in Barangay Nangka, where traces of excavated stone tablets were found and believed to be housing construction materials popular in those early days.

No formal records were known to exist that documented Balamban's establishment as a municipality. However, it was noted that during the Spanish era Balamban comprised a big area to include Naghalin. Asturias – including Naghalin and the southern barrio of Tuburan called Bugascawa ceded from Balamban to become another pueblo or town by itself.

It was estimated that Balamban became a "pueblo" immediately previous to 1878. An 1881 Spanish era document entitled "A La Errecion La Parroquia Del Pueblo De Asturias," mentioned "Pueblo De Balamban," as well as the neighboring Tuburan.

The first administrator of Balamban was a Spanish captain –named Ciriaco Guiterrez. Since then a number of administrators and mayors had evolved to lead Balamban to what is now a progressive Municipality.
